Since the introduction of the first commercially available intra oral scanner (IOS) back in 1987, the technology of scanning has been limited only to select few dentists due to cost, accessibility and complexities as well as difficulties of scanning. However, the last few years have seen an acceleration in the development of IOS devices, both in terms of ease of use, range of capabilities and pricing.
Optical impressions reduce patient discomfort, is time-efficient and simplifies the clinical procedures for the dentist, eliminating stone models and allowing better communication with the dental technician and with patients. Together with more affordable 3D printing plus efficient digital laboratories, more and more dentists are moving towards a fully digital practice that seeks to eliminate messy intra oral impressions and increases efficiency for restorative, implant and orthodontic procedures.
In this lecture, Dr Yap will share his experience on how he started with IOS and make some recommendations on how an IOS can be incorporated into today’s modern practice.
- Understand the capabilities of modern-day IOS
- Application of IOS in the restorative practice with case studies
- Understand the workflow of a digital practice
- Why the IOS is more than just for impressions
